NAOMI FORMAN soprano
Naomi Forman, B.Mus., M.Mus., joined the voice faculty of Brandon University in 2006. Previous to her BU appointment, she was an instructor at the Eckhardt-Gramatte Conservatory of Music at Brandon University. Naomi has a Master’s Degree in Music (vocal performance) from Boston University, where she studied with mezzo-soprano Susan Ormont, and a Bachelor’s degree in music (vocal performance) from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg where she studied voice with baritone Mel Braun and was a member of the U of M Singers for four years under the baton of Henry Engbrecht.
Integral to Naomi’s music education was the training she received at several outstanding summer music programs. During her two summers at Opera NUOVA in Edmonton, her instructors included Nico Castel, Carol Castel, Kim Mattice Wanat, Michael McMahon, Candace Cox and Brian Deedrick, with notable masterclasses including Tracy Dahl, Wendy Nielsen, and Marshall Pinkoski. She has also studied Dramatic Integration at the Banff Centre for the Arts with instructors Selena James, Robert Chivara, Richard Armstrong, Kelly Armstrong, and trained at the Mountainview Festival in Sundrie, AB, under the tutelage of Rudolph Jenson, Charles Foreman and Kathleen Van Mourik.
Naomi’s skills include extended training in German (fluent), French and Italian diction, baroque gesture, Commedia Dell'arte, Alexander Technique, and stage combat. She has studied acting with Tony® nominee Claudia Catania, Carol Castel, Sharon Daniels, and Brian Deedrick, and her voice teachers have included Susan Ormont, Mel Braun, Heidi Klassen, Rudy Bearg, Millie Hildebrand and Colleen Schellenberg-Koop. Notable masterclasses in which Naomi has participated include: Nico Castel, Virginia Zeani, Micheal McMahon, John Moriarty, Carol Issaac and Rudolph Jensen.
